Original vs. Remix

I feel like trying something new for a change. A good idea just came to my mind. But you get the full story first. It was like this: Last week I found this pretty sweet dubstep tune from Chase & Status which is a remix of a song by White Lies. And one night, when being late in uni, I was sitting besides one of my fellow students and heard a track he was listening to on his headphones. I immidiately recognised that it was the new song I liked, just the original version.
By then I just could not yet remember what the name of the song or artist was, and I wanted to surprise the one by playing my “hardcore” dubstep edition (he´s more like into classical rock music, and he knows I´m crazy about electronic music as we had just been to a dubstep and drum´n´bass concert, but he also likes to widen his horizone ; )

So, this conflict between original and remix / cover is really really common in music business today and the whole past half century, and a lot of the hits of our century are just “bad” copies of the original artists. But, what do you guys think? Should it just be the original or is it good with some mangfoldighed?!

VS

Oh, and P.S: I found the song, turned the volume on max, played it & went nuts. Then I was once more called crazy german: B-B-B-B-B-EEEEEN-JAAAAAAA! But I think he liked it!
